This Sunday, in our final psalm of the summer, we will be looking at Psalm 42. In this psalm, we get an intimate look at the psalmist's conversation with himself. On the one hand he feels like he is spiritually dry and deserted. On the other hand, he knows of the steadfast love of his God. Hear why what we know about God is more important than what we feel about ourselves.
In Psalm 14, we see a "fool" who says there is no God. But, as we get to the heart of the matter, we see that this is not an intellectual problem, but a moral problem. Our issue as sinful humans is that we don't want a God who will bring justice. However, in the end, the justice our Savior God brings is our only hope.
This week as we continue our Summer in the Psalms, the author of Psalm 146 invites us to ponder Who Will You Trust? We are reminded of the mortality of human beings and because of this, our only hope of salvation is in the One true God, specifically as he has revealed himself in Christ Jesus our Savior.
In our culture, there are many different views on who God is. However, most of these views tend to distort or focus on one aspect of God's character while neglecting or rejecting the others. Join us this Sunday as we let Psalm 29 show us two important and amazing characteristics of Almighty God - His transcendence and His immanence.
What does it mean to be 'blessed'? The world definitely has an opinion on this, and it's easy for us as followers of Christ to start buying the ideas that the world is selling. This Sunday, come hear how Psalm 84 describes those who are genuinely blessed, and let us also 'sing for joy to the living God'.
As David was being hunted by King Saul, he found himself in a country and a culture that didn't appreciate his presence. In fact, he felt like he was under a constant attack. In an increasingly post-Christian culture, followers of Christ may feel that their message and their very presence are not welcome - and fear can often follow. Join us as we look at Psalm 56 and hear how David overcame his fear by trusting in God and His Word.
This week we look at another Psalm of David. And through this Psalm, David asks the all important question, "Who can stand in the presence of a Holy God?". However, the initial answer that David gives is not necessarily good news. Come hear how people like you and me - people with unclean hands and impure hearts - can ascend the holy hill and stand in his holy place.
We continue our Summer in the Psalms series with Psalm 85. God has established a covenant relationship with his people through his gracious saving acts of love and faithfulness. A covenant relationship with God requires both parties holding up their end, but we so often fail to keep our end of the bargain. We find ourselves saved by God’s grace but so often feel in need of that grace again and again. Salvation is dependent on God’s unilateral action, through Christ’s faithfulness and righteousness. It is this Gospel truth that we must be constantly reminded of, so that we might know the comfort of God’s Gospel promise, even when we don’t feel it.
This week, as we dig into Psalm 30, we hear David lament about his pride and self-reliance that led to great trouble for him and his people. However, David found hope and joy by turning back to the great mercy of God. We too will have times of struggling in the darkness, but thankfully we have the same promise that joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 124 is another Song of Ascent. As we come to the house of the Lord, we are to reflect on the great and mighty deeds the Lord has done for us, his people. Things only God could have done. If God had not acted on our behalf, then we would surely have perished. God's faithfulness in the past gives us comfort and hope for the future. The LORD is our help in times of fear.
